“Betrayed by Their Masters” is the story of a group of lost and deserted dogs learning to survive on their own. Each has its own story about losing or leaving an owner, and becoming a feral, killing beast. These dogs cause immense destruction before Oscar Newberry comes to save the day.

“Major” is the story of a coydog who learns to fend for himself after his mother suddenly dies. He initially survives with the help of rancher Jim Slade. Major and Jim develop a special relationship that impacts both of their lives.

“Way of the Wilds” is the story of Chieftan, a lone dog who develops a family in the cruel wild. Chieftain’s master travels to town one day, never to return. Little does Chieftain know, his master has suffered a heart attack and died, leaving Chieftain alone to fend for himself.

This is a unique group of short stories about dogs, written partially from the canine viewpoint. The stories are easy to read and heartwarming, while infused with mystery and some thought-provoking issues that will keep the reader wanting more.   CBW

Reviews

I enjoyed listening to this compilation of short stories. It’s amazing to me to think Barbara was actually in her teens when writing these stories! What a special tribute and labor of love this was.  Man’s Best Friend Versus The Wilderness was an emotionally, delightful read. The writing was so vivid I felt as if I were with the animals, in the wild, on an emotional journey. The stories passionately advocate for the knowledge of wildlife conservation and the responsibility of pet ownership. Sit down, snuggle in, sip your coffee, and enjoy the writing of this inspirational author.
