What Makes Barbara's Poetry Unique?

Each book of Barbara's poems discusses abuse, working oneself out of bad situations, and hope for the future, but some poems also cover subjects of patriotism, animals, religion, and children.

Barbara wrote poetry about real-life - her thoughts and circumstances. What makes these books especially unique is that her daughter, Carol, knew the background about why some of the poems were written. She added editorial comments for the reader's added enjoyment. She also noted the year the poem was written if known.

Comparative works to Barbara’s poetry are difficult to find. Her writings most closely resemble the classics of Poe, Dickinson, and Longfellow; she owned several copies of their various works. Barbara's poetry is similar to the above authors because they read like stories and are easily understood.
